| A number of "Reserve
Battalions" existed in the Canadian Expeditionary Force,
all part of a complex system where "x" Canadian
Battalion was absorbed by "y" Reserve Battalion",
or the case of my particular search "x" Battalion was
redesignated "x" Reserve Battalion, which was
then absorbed by "y" Reserve Battalion. In many
instances, the Battalion or Reserve Battalion was also
"broken up", either in Canada or England, to release
replacements for the fighting battalions in France.
The thought occurred to me, should I be
checking the Library and Archives Canada database for
"Reserve Battalions" as well - to my surprise, the one
I was looking for was there - so the hunt begins. The list
below identifies records for thirty-one (31) reserve battalions. |
