NOTES

  1. Nicholson page 38: reorganization of Canadian Forces January 1915 from the 8 Battalion Colonial Establishments to the 4 Company Imperial organization
  2. Nicholson page 38: three 6 gun artillery batteries reorganized to 4 gun batteries - surplus guns and men to brigade depots for reinforcements
  3. Perry reports that "Automobile Machine-Gun Brigade No.1" was attached to the 1st Division until February 1915 when it joined the British Southeastern Mounted Brigade.  It rejoined the 1st Division in July 1915 and was transferred to the "Canadian Corps Troops in July 1916 when it became the A/ and B/  of 1 Canadian Motor Machine Gun Brigade.
  4. On April 1, 1915 the Canadian Division was under the command of the British 2nd Army, 5th Corps when it returned to the line.  Alderson resumed command on April 17, 1915 when they moved to relieve the French.
  5. Nicholson page110: The regiments of the Canadian Mounted Rifles reached England between June 1915 and July 1916 (dismounted to serve as regular infantry battalions).  The 1st to 6th CMR crossed to France in September and October 1915 and the 7th to 13th were broken up for reinforcements.7th CMR "A" Squadron became the 2nd Division Cavalry Squadron.

  7. Nicholson page 114: The Canadian Corps is formed (from1st and 2nd Canadian Divisions) under the command of Lieut. Gen. Alderson.  Maj. Gen. A. W. Currie took over command of the 1st Division.  The Corps Troops was officially formed at that time from various formations serving separately.
