Background:

Information provided by the CEF Study Group postings:

The 60th Battalion (Victoria Rifles of Canada), were mobilized at Montreal PQ. They were replaced by the 116th in April 1917, at which time men of the 60th transferred to other battalions in the field.

The 60th battalion was dropped from the order of battle because Quebec simply could not recruit enough men to fill the ranks of their existing Battalions.  The 60th was ranks were full yet they were told they were to be replaced by Ontario's 116th Battalion. The 60th's War Diary, shows the Adjutant was quite indignant at the Battalion being disbanded. (Forum Posting)
