Background:

Stewart reports that the 159th Infantry Battalion ("Algonquins") was organized in Haileybury, Ontario in 1915 with a strength of 972 men.  The battalion did not serve in France or Flanders but was absorbed by the 8th Reserve Battalion to provide reinforcements for the Canadian Corps in the field.  Meek reports that the unit was operational in Canada from December 1, 1915 to November 1, 1916 and in England from November 11, 1916 to January 20, 1917.  Love reports only that the unit was absorbed by the 8th Reserve Battalion but does not report that it was trained by the 8th Reserve Battalion.

There is no report on this unit in Nicholson.

From Library and Archives Canada there is only the one reference of the 159th Infantry Battalion in the fonds of R. H. James.  There is no on-line information.
