Background:

Stewart reports that the 109th Battalion was organized with a strength of 775 men on December 22, 1915 in Lindsay, Ontario and was broken up on September 15, 1920.  The battalion was absorbed by the 12th Reserve Battalion which provided reinforcements to the Canadian Corps in the field.  It is affiliated with the 252nd Battalion.

Love reports that the 12th Reserve Battalion provided reinforcements to the 3rd, 15th, 20th and 75th Battalions in France.

Meek notes that the unit was recruited from Victoria and Halliburton counties in Ontario.  It was active in Canada from November 15, 1915 to July 24, 1916 and in England from July 31, 1916 to December 8, 1916.  Meek differs from Love in that his records state that the 109th was absorbed into the 20th, 21st, 38th and 124th Battalions.

Nicholson does not report on the 109th Battalion.
